ملخص
تتنوّع المقابلات التي أجرتها الصحافة الفرنسيّة مع العلّامة الإيطالي أمبرتو ايكو بين العامين 1993 و 2016. وقد اختار بعضَها وترجمها اسكندر حبش وغازي برّو في كتاب صدر عن دار الفارابي تحت عنوان "هكذا تكلّم ايكو: مقالات عنه وأحاديث معه" (2017). وهو عمل يفتح على مسألة الترجمة، التي أولاها ايكو جلّ اهتمامه، مترجِمًا ومُترجَمًا. فتبيّن له، بالنظريّ والعمليّ، أن الترجمة لا تقوم في الأساس إلّا على مبدأ الانفتاح الحضاريّ، الأمر الذي تَمَيَّز به ايكو، ولا تستوي إلّا على قاعدتي الحوار والتفاوض. لأن التقاط المعنى، لنقله بأمانة تؤدّي المعنى، يتطلّب في معظم الأحيان فتح حوار مع النصّ، ومع الثقافة التي يدور في فلكها، للانعتاق من التطرّف على أشكاله. والحوار بدوره يرتكز على التفاوض بين الخصوصيّات اللغوية والاجتماعيّة والثقافيّة التي يختزنها النصّ المصدر وخصوصيّات نصّ الوصول، لتفادي الخسارات قدر الإمكان والتعويض حيث تدعو الحاجة. وعلى هذا النحو، تتحوّل الترجمة إلى فنٍّ، لا يتوقّف عند المعرفة اللغويّة وحسب، إنما يطال القدرة على التفاوض والحوار. فالفنّ الذي تمارسه الترجمة ليس فنًّا لغويًّا، يقوم على نقل حروف وكلمات وجمل وفقرات، بل هو فنّ يتمتّع مَن يمارسه بالقدرة على التنقّل بين الثقافات، كي يأتي النصّ المترجَم وفيًّا للنصّ المصدر وأمينًا لمعانيه ومخلصًا لدلالاته.

Texts are translated from one language to another according to a process in which multiple rules apply. It does not only concern linguistic competences, because the linguistic transformation of the meaning implies a transformation of the various elements that constitute the text. This requires a discussion in which these elements are taken into consideration, and a negotiation about the meaning the translation should provide. Through his literary, journalistic and philosophical career, Umberto Eco, whose texts have been translated, institutes this rule also as a translator. The linguistic, cultural and social specificities represented by the text make it necessary for the translator to be a mediator, to negotiate between the inevitable loss and the presumed compensation, so that the translation respects the text, being sincere and loyal to it, according to Eco. From this standpoint, the translation is not simply a pure linguistic transition between the language of origin and the language of access, but a transfer between the cultural, social and civilisational heritages.
